"I never said I was sane and now since you stopped laughing, I believe we can finally have some negotiations. I won't attack your city and I will halt the invasion immediately. I didn't plan to move farther without believing I would make the other nations at edge. I promise to return any people you wish released from my prisons and will continue to provide rations in the area. If you can at least find me proof of your claims I believe we would have a deal. The town I destroyed was of no use to you or your city. The only reason it existed was to warn you of any armies marching toward the city of thieves. I do not mind if you reorganize on the same location but if you will I shall warn you that the area will be deeply irradiated and if you wish I could supply devices to eliminate the contamination after you give me proof."

"Well I guarantee you Lee that she will take you up on any challenge." Saze replied as he stretched. "Well one more thing since you are trying to take over this planet. The Federation has been restless since the invasion of the borders and wants to fight for the offshore islands that are not necessarily controlled by the League but are of great allegiance to them. If so, that will hurt consumerism here greatly. That includes the rich you so highly cater too."

"We do not know. We will send send search parties that will inform us immediately." She replied as some Alundra moved toward the train and began to ride it out of the city.

The boy stumbled and suddenly began to fly to the location she had told him.

The pain simply watched and looked at Ayama. "And if he gets injured or dies?"

"At least we gave him a fighting chance." Ayama said.

Elizabeth held her daughter closer.

Lee frowned. "I am not trying to take over the damn planet."

"You annoy me." The man said. he looked to the soilders behind her. "Does she annoy you?"

Pain smiled as the sound of the dead began to surround them. "You truly believe we won't survive?" Pain raised an eyebrow as he looked around his environment. The haggard didn't even make a noise despite his size. He stared ahead as the sound of screams and crashes headed their way.

Saze just smirked. "Then you truly won't succeed in gaining the peace you desire. Anyways you cannot spread a plague and destroy this continent without repercussions around the world."

"She was the one who ordered supplies and rations given to these people. Even though they believed the food was poisoned she would sit and est with them to prove otherwise. I believe she has the patience and strength we could ask of any commander. Even I question her judgement with what she did with that slave town but if I am to believe her past she would stick to her word she tried to save as many innocents as possible. For her to start being pushed this far reveals our problems at war. She denied war until the majority of the consulate forced her to invade these lands. She isn't coming here of her own volition but to try and quell those at him and the dangers in these lands." A soldier replied as he looked at the man and sat. "Also, I believe your both thick headed. I would rather not kill anyone at all but we just can't go home without something or we will be abandoned." The man drank his water.

"It is in the book of war. One of the best ways to get troops motivated in combat is too force them with two options. To move forward and decimate everything or to be exiled and be eliminated. With those two options it is simple, troops will fight." Steele replied. "And I'm fighting with them. Now ill hold any invasions back from this point. I will place hospitals at our furthest outposts. We do need help in making sure they are secured, have enough medical help and can be supplied. I'm willing to work with you but first I need your name." She poked his forehead with her sword.

"You will be fine." The Alundra replied and looked at the two. "Can I do anything to assist you?"

Turk looked st Miranda. "I am not letting you go without explaining. You don't look like your from the borderlands and that insane power of yours." Turk crossed his arms and stood in her way. "I think you need to explain."

"I choose to not believe in anything." AYama said as she readied herself for a fight.

"You know what?" Lee sighed as he looked up. "You're fired, and so is every other fucking adviser who wants me to take over the whole fucking planet."

The man moved quickly and soon had her sword against her throat. "Not a chance. You annoyed me too much with how up yourself you are. Don't poke me!"

"Move." Miranda growled dangerously.

A vehicle gutted its way through the hoard as multiple guns fired at all sides into the undead. A hatched opened from above and a person stared at the pair. The vehicle was easily the size of a house and its wheels could easily emcompass a human in its rims. The man waved at the group. "I stole this from a league facility up in Anthem. Looks like you guys need a lift. We need all the help we can get. If you have any engineers we would be glad in getting some assistance in getting these cannons working properly." The man looked at Ayama and dropped a hatch on the side.

"What if I could help you get rid of the generals? Once and for all with easy business. I am in no quarrel with you Lee I hate the Federation and want them destroyed. I just find it strange you infect the planet and have no motive at least to cement your power. At least hear me out and think of my offer. I want to get rid of my problems as much as you do Lee but you can't with those generals breathing down your neck." Saze replied without moving.

Steele poked his belly with her dagger as she was careful to move her neck against the sword. Her troops all raised their weapons ready to fire at the man. "You were the one who laughed in the beginning now your pointing weapons? I understand you can kill me and I have no clue if you have any secret weapons or abilities I do not see but why are you angry now? Are people so mad in this part of the world that they cannot comprehend a person who sticks on their words? Killing me will solve nothing. It will probably encourage a war between your people and ours. I look at it as humans but most people like to separate us and cause havoc." Steele dropped her dagger from his stomach. "Kill me." She asked.

Liquid stared toward Miranda. The area around them began to crumble and change. It began to burst into a scene of a city street lit with fire and screams. A group of people lay between Liquid and Miranda surrounded by a small crater. A father who covered his son was stained deeply with ash. A mother covered a small bundle in her arms as her legs were barely distinguishable.

And there lay a girl. Her eye were glazed as she saw the scene presented before her. The sounds of explosions began to near in the distance and a group of soldiers began to walk past Miranda and Liquid as they inspected the streets littered with bodies. On their arms were patches emblazoned: U.N PEACE CORPS. They carried multiple military equipment and covered their mouths with gas masks. Each seemed heavily armed with a rifle and special equipment.

One of the soldiers remained back he began to examine the bodies as he moves his breather to get a better look. His facial expression showed distaste at the devastation. He seemed to ignore his fellow soldiers as they walked over bodies and stabbed at them with the tip of their rifle to make sure no survivors would remain.

The soldiers seemed completely oblivious to Miranda as they continued to do their work as if it were a dream.

The girl on the floor began to grasp at the asphalt that lay beneath her and accept her fate as the soldiers began to near her.

A babe began to cry from the bundle underneath the mother's arms. The girl, the soldier who remained isolated from the group and Liquid all looked at where the sound originated from.One of the group began to walk closely and inspect the sound. As he neared it and readied his bayonet the girl grabbed a large piece of debris and slammed it against the man's skull causing a sickening crack. She immediately grabbed at the bundle and began to scamper away into some collapsing houses. Some of the soldier began firing immediately after her.

But it wasn't the girl who faltered.

The soldiers began to fall as bullets pierced their bodies and robbed them of their lives.

The soldier who hung back held his rifle as his shoulder and watched as his unit died. As they fell he began to remove his mask and drop his arm.

It was a much younger looking Liquid and he seemed angered at the situation. As more explosions began to surround them and his radio began to cackle of more strikes and retreating units. This Liquid abandoned most of his gear and grabbed at some ripped clothes on the floor and covered his body to appear of the region. As he finished he chased after the girl and everything began to darken and Liquid looked back at Miranda as they returned to their present scene.

Turk looked at Miranda and didn't let go. "Miranda... Your bleeding again." Turk replied as he touched the sides of her temple and revealed to her blood which was dripping down her face.

The Chinese Federation is preparing to move one of its largest naval powers into the Sea of Edni. We won't breach our treaties with he League or Core but we are hoping on stopping trade in this region which we believe is arming rebels which are a threat to our state.

The letter was short and simple and Harper knew what it meant.

"In times of peace, prepare for war..." He whispered to himself.

Ayama sighed. "Lucky for you, I'm a woman of many talents."

"I can't with everyone telling me I'm doing something I'm not." Lee said.

---

"I don't want to kill you." The man breathed into her ear. "I just wanted to show you that you never held the power over me." He looked at the weapons and one by one, they fell to peices.

Miranda looked at Turk with wide and scared eyes before looking at Liquid.

"Hopefully you also know how to remove the ID indicator in this machine. Otherwise, it will self destruct in a matter of hours." The man replied. "Also, if we are that much of an inconvenience to you we can leave."

Pain just glanced at Ayama and the haggard was already looking at the machine as if looking for any misplaced metal he could snare.

"Well I will rid of them or you can at least keep the ones you like. The ones that bother you I will rid of. Will that satisfy you?" Saze asked.

She glanced and looked at the man. "Don't think I didn't expect you to have some unnatural power. Most of the Borderlands is filled with experiments of the past war. Although yours in particular surprises me." She replied. "Of course what do you want now? Even if you stop me you cannot halt an entire army by yourself."

"You are also forgetting about me." Liquid replied as he looked at the pair. "You two would make an excellent couple now I don't suppose you are comfortable with the fact that while the Borderlands and League are in conflict the Federation is planning on stopping all trade from the isle's to the borderlands. That would effectively starve them of food and cause them to cling for Federation for support." Liquid replied to the two.

Turk and Euchre looked alarmed and took her towards a tent. Liquid gave her a quick glance as blood seemed to drip from his neck. He didn't seem to notice but his eyes continued to connect with her until she disappeared into the tent. As if silently nodding at what happened.

"Are you alright?" Euchre asked as they placed her on a bed.

Turk began to grab bottles of water for her to drink and began to check her vitals.

"Get me Liquid." Miranda said as she grabbed hold of Turk. "Now."

"Not us." The man said. "Mother has been planning for that for years."

Ayama sighed and told Haggard what he could remove, that would also help keep the tank moving.

---

"Just get out." Lee sighed

"Well if you two continue to believe your things are impenetrable. You two will be proven wrong in time." Liquid replied as Turk fetched him and he left the two to bicker.

Liquid entered the tent and sat down with his elbows on his knees and his chin resting on his hands. He looked at Miranda and at the other two.

"Thought you despised me."

Steele just pushed the sword away from her neck. "So what do you suppose happens now?"

Saze retreated from the room and left Lee to think.

---

The haggard handed her pieces from his body which could repair the cannons. He then entered the vehicle and Pain watched with interest.

"What the hell was that?" Miranda growled at him, meaning about the scene he had just showed her.

"Now, we work together." The man said.

Ayama climbed onto the cannons and began to repair them

"The past." He replied calmly as he looked at Miranda. He swiped a drop of blood from his brow. "At least that is what I predicted would happen." He began to unfurl a paper in his pocket. "Your power was getting out of control. You nearly killed everyone there. So what I did was I allowed you to rob my brain of one of its memories to calm you. It worked rather well but damaged us more than I thought it would." Liquid looked at the piece of paper. "You completely erased the memory I had but if I'm correct it involved two teams of four. Each created by the U.N. peace corps to do an eradication run in a small city of Nera. We were sent as the ground forces to eliminate any survivors from the bombing runs and record how effective our weapons were among the populace. The small groups were divided between Zeta and Ulix. I was part of Ulix and as I held back and examined the bodies my fellow soldiers began to make sure the others were dead. As I continued to check I heard something that finally made me snap. An infant wailing and as one of the troops moved forward I began to raise my rifle. Suddenly a young girl attacked the man and ran with the infant and as the others began aiming at her I fired into their backs." Liquid looked at the paper. "I summarized best I could. It seems I wrote every single detail I could have remembered but unless you have a specific question I won't read all off it." Liquid replied. "I remember the events after this though..." Liquid placed the paper beside him.

"That is not the true problem though. Your anxiety nearly decimated this camp. I believe I need to share some more truths since you seem to finally be listening to me. If you have noticed experiments have been givin labels like Ghost, Lust and Pain even that man arguing with Steele is one. Those first three I mentioned have their powers inside you. Did you ever wonder what happened to your mother?" Liquid asked Miranda and his memories seemed to flash every few seconds around her.

"How do you suppose that?" Steele raised her eyebrow. "Especially since I dont know who exactly who you are."

Pain climbed up with Ayama as the tank began moving. Some of the creatures began moving forward and Pain began to keep them at bay. "No need to let you do this by yourself...." Pain replied. "I don't know why you trust these people."

"I don't." Ayama said. "What I trust is the fact that I know fifty different ways to kill them based on a slight look alone."

"I don't have a mother." Miranda said. "I was created in a tube, wasn't I?"

"Names James." The man said. "My mother is Ayama, head of the thieves and assasians guild. She is also one of the only susscessful solider experiments ever created and that had to do with her temperament at the time."

"Does that include me?" Pain replied as he sent swarm after swarm to any that neared them and the insects eviscerated the creatures flesh from their bones.

"Not necessarily... There was a time when your father was with someone. That woman unfortunately died and I helped kill her although it wasn't what I wished to do." Liquid replied as he took a sip of water and set it aside. "She was one of the experiments like me and Ayama. We were the first and unlike the ones who came after us they literally tested us to the point of not even being recognizable human's anymore. Well the point being during the war your father trusted this person and when she died she had to replace her. That is you and you are almost an exact remnant of her. A bit more feisty and uncontrolled but the same nonetheless. I guess that is your father's anger though. He never could get rid of that temper." Liquid began to rustle inside his coat pocket and pulled out a photo. He quickly glanced at it and handed it to her. A woman stared back at Miranda. Almost the exact same but older and scarred by war. Liquid leaned back and watched. "She was a good ally and one you could trust. She accomplished a ton of things and helped where it was needed. In the end we thought she was a traitor, a liar and a thief but what she did was understandable. When the United Nations tried to fire a nuclear device into the heart of what is now known as the Federation. She prevented it and was able to fire it into the heart of the U.N. It effectively stopped the war but it cost her the life she had but spared her of the consequences she would have seen of her actions."

Liquid paused for a moment. "I unfortunately wasn't able to save her in time of that attack and nearly lost my arm with the barrage we suffered but I saw the city shutter to the ground and its remnants still exist within the League but it is so highly irradiated that only the scientific crews can go out there and try to salvage any data or technology they could use but don't think you were just created. There is more purpose of you than just a cure to a disease."

"That man Liquid is a successful experiment and even he isn't doing well." Steele replied. "All of those experiments have expiration dates. Most of them expired seven years ago so even if she is successful I will have to doubt her situation in power. I am not thinking less of her but I will be wary of that fact." Steele replied as she brushed her hair back. "Even you James show signs of not being under control. Just because I'm a normal human doesn't mean I am not dangerous." She took her sword from his hands and touched her hilt against his chin and made eye contact. "My name is Iyas Steele. You can refer to me as the latter. I don't take threats lightly either." She revealed to him her sword. The sword had notches all over its blade. "One for each person I stare into the eyes of as they die." She replied as she sheathed her sword. "We will become allies and I will call the consulate to halt their invasion immediately. I can't promise any immediate success but expect a complete cease in three days and you can help yourself to any food but I'll keep my guards on watch on our weapons and since we will work together you can bring your army in so we know who our allies are. If you want to talk to me about what we plan to do as our first procedure feel free to. I'll wait in my tent and if you have any questions ask my right hand man, Turk. He should help you. Also, start laughing again. I prefer that to your ill attitude." She walked off to her tent.

"Especially you." Ayama gave him a small smile.

Miranda looked at the photo. "What purpose could this be? I didn't even have any powers untiil some guard with a crush gave them to me." She handed the photo back. "Were you in love with her?"

"Don't touch me with your sword again." James said. "Guns arnt the only things I can destroy."

Pain smirked and tightened the bandanna around his mouth and continued to do his job. "Well is that thing fixed yet?" He asked as the vehicle began to tumble and shake as they moved over some wreckage.

"I wouldn't have given my life for just anyone." Liquid replied. "You always had them but whatever the person gave to you accelerated the process like crazy. Might be why you are suffering headaches when you use it and its erratic. "I guess you could say she was probably the person most people trusted the most. She effectively stopped the war. Wished she could have stopped the rest of it. You are the basis of what she is now. A clone of sorts so your DNA is already aged which leads to another problem. Even the most successful of soldiers that were created during those times have fallen apart and have gone insane." Liquid replied. "I don't know how they managed to keep you together and repress it as well but whatever caused you to begin returning to normal power your mother once was might take a toll on you."

Liquid began to play with the photos in his hand. "That memory I gave you is actually the start of all this. Why I saved Ari, betrayed the Peace unit, help cement Core as a power, met you mother... The hilarious thing of that was since I became dishonorable to the regime the U.N. had created they thought women might be better handled and situated in these scenarios. They were completely wrong when both her and Ayama betrayed them and went their own ways." Liquid looked at the picture fondly. "That is when the U.N. began to blame the doctors and when Huluhot went berserk and released that plague that still exists today and the Federation uses but I will show you my memories at a later time. With the memory before it is why I betrayed and why I snapped. The picture of your mother is just one of many reasons I fought against the U.N. at first I thought I generally could deliver peace but maybe humans are never supposed to accomplish that, especially soldiers." Liquid replied.

"I'm surprised you don't despise me. I had the impression you wanted to kill me earlier." Liquid raised an eyebrow.

"Can't you do anything besides threaten? Just get in my tent and get something to eat so you can calm down, James." Steele replied opening her tent and keeping her sword away from him as if it offended him.

"Answer me the question." Miranda said. "My mother. Were you in love with her?"

"Its been fixed for 10 minutes." Ayama said.

---

James smirked softly. "Get in your tent, ay?"

"Does the answer matter? I was close to her and I would say I loved her I viewed her as family and a person who shared the same struggle who could understand." Liquid replied.

"You have fast hands. Lets hope they are great during combat as well." Pain replied as the hatch on top opened and allowed them inside.

---

"I've been known to cut off certain appendages." Steele replied as she ushered him in. "I can always let you sleep outside but I need to keep an eye on you."

"Then why are you still carrying around her picture?" Miranda asked.

"You havn't seen me in combat yet." Ayama said as she climbed inside.

"Whys that?" James asked

"For fun." Steele replied and sat at a chair. "Besides I don't dwell on such things I focus on strategy and tactics rather than anything else."

---

"Well I saw you nearly crushed by a being nearly eight times your size." Pain replied as they entered the vehicle. It was large and even with the haggard in the room there was quite a lot of space to move around. An Alundra was talking in a strange dialect as another man kept checking on the machine.

"Whatever you did helped a lot." The man replied.

---

"I loved her and I regret not accomplishing what we wished to happen." Liquid stated bluntly.

James sat on the floor.

"My pleasure." Ayama sat down.

---

"Peace?" Miranda asked. "That will never happen. Men will always be greedy and man will always be willing to fight for a cause."

"Well I can't say I didn't try but there is one more thing we can accomplish. Get rid of all the remnants of the past to hopefully start a better future." Liquid replied as he crushed the photo and placed it inside his pocket. "That is what I plan on doing now."

"You can take a seat on one of my chairs." Steele replied as she looked at him oddly.

The Alundra turned and looked at them. Her large eyes examined them before she returned back to the monitors.

"Sorry about that but we weren't going to survive without those cannons. We got most of the systems up but everything helps." He replied.

"Would she have wanted that?" Miranda asked.

"I like the floor." James said. "I see better."

"My pleasure." Ayama repeated as she relaxed and closed her eyes

"I believe so. The problem is not the current generation but the past. We have tainted everyone with anger, nonacceptance, war, borders, false allegiances, etc. We have pushed all of this not because they had a choice but because the past had done it and wants to continue to do it. So we must eliminate the past to hopefully start a new future. Look at the League trying to hold to the past with technology and power or Core using the same tactics that dictators once used. If we truly want a new future we need to get rid of the old past." Liquid breathed. "That includes me, Ayama and could possibly mean you..."

"Strange... Well besides sex and anger, what do you enjoy?" Steele asked.

---

"We will be out shortly. This thing is insane and the the League is having enough trouble so we should be fine." The man replied as the Alundra smiled.

"No!" Miranda frowned at him. "I didn't even want this. I'm only 17! I havn't even begun to live yet. Saying that I'll need to die is... What the fuck is wrong with you?!"

"Sex is pretty much it." James said.

--

Ayama just grunted her response.

"You act as if I have a choice in this matter. How do you believe I feel? I was robbed of a life to become an experiment and murder. I haven't necessarily lived the way I wanted." Liquid replied. "I'm also not demanding it of you but as long as people exist like me and you there will always be people who want to use us as weapons and gain power. Hykos knows that and I know that. This is war though it could take decades so don't worry about such things now." Liquid assured. "I've already begun by eradicating the evidence. Killed some former employees and erased their advancements in weapons. Why I came here is to do the same with a doctor who cures Keidran but I believe he can help me further by pointing out where some others may lie. In not ridding the betters ones until I have too but if we don't eliminate these things it will only get worse. Your mother knew she was going to leave the job half done and hoped it would sway us away but as it turned out we are returning to the war we started years ago. I need to eliminate everything from the past to stop it. I'm not an enemy to you and your one of the few I believe has a choice. I say live and do what you wish but be warned of those willing to use you. They may do anything to get to you."

Liquids body began to shimmer and what appeared to be water began to drop from his body. He seemed to age and his hands became withered and scarred. His face showed the experience of everything of his past. "They have already gotten to me." Liquid replied as he movers puddle in his hand but they do not yet realize that I'm not the only one infected." Liquid quickly placed the water over his hands and face and returned to normal. "Your body is already infected with this disease. It is different than the one your the cure for. It was a safety mechanism created by the scientists to control us. Without them monitoring it for so long even people who were born of genetically enhanced parents will have this. It will be the end of you and me one day so even if you decide against death just realize you will be living with it until you die. I know you dislike my words but ill just tell you the truth even if its very unfortunate but since your made of your mother I believe you can easily out age me." Liquid nodded.

Steele just rested her chin on her hand. "You have to be more interesting then that."

"That's a good response." The man replied. "We should be out of here in no time." He replied as their vehicle trudged along. They could see the city being encompassed by fire and wreckage. The league overwhelming it with the massive ships that smashed their way through the ceiling. Sounds of fire continuing from the raging battle.
